ALI Collaborative Collection Management Data Analysis Task Force

Task Force Charge

To assist ALI in taking the next steps for Collaborative Collection Management, the ALI Collaborative Collection Management Data Analysis Task Force will review existing and identify additional data analysis necessary to select the most beneficial statewide, cooperative purchasing opportunities.

The task force will:

  • Review existing ALI-PALNI Shared Print Project data
  • Identify what additional data analysis is necessary to identify highly beneficial ALI-wide cooperative purchasing opportunities:
    • With assistance from ALI RAC and PALNI Collection Management, identify key opportunities and constraints in group purchasing options that impact data analysis (e.g. certain publishers, publication dates, subjects, etc.).
    • Consult further with VIVA and SCS on data analysis methods.
    • Determine what options exist to analyze ALI purchasing data from institutions who did not participate in the ALI-PALNI Shared Print Project.
    • Purchasing possibilities include but are not limited to:
      • eBook packages or DDA programs for widely purchased and low use books
      • eBook packages or DDA programs for widely purchased and high use books
      • eBook packages or DDA programs for most widely purchased publishers

Shared Print Project

Project Goals

  • Provide participating libraries an opportunity to reduce their print collections with minimal impact on library users;
  • Allow participating libraries to reclaim space for other purposes more directly beneficial to library users;
  • Identify unique print items within the collections of participating libraries for preservation and potential digitization;
  • Inform and influence ongoing collection development at the individual libraries; and
  • Develop a statewide strategy for print book collections, which may involve cooperative purchasing.
