Affordable Learning Summit
May 29, 2025
Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University
9:00 AM - 9:50 AM Breakfast (Great Hall, Room 136)
10:00 AM Welcome (Auditorium)
10:10 AM - 10:50 AM Plenary
Navigating the 500+ textbooks in the LibreTexts Libraries and over 300,000 questions in the ADAPT Homework Question Bank can be daunting, but it is rewarding. A selection of faculty will present three perspectives of using the OER resources: (1) Finding Course Materials, (2) Writing Materials, and (3) Open Pedagogy tools for co-authoring with students while addressing the use of AI with writing analytics.
11:00 AM - 11:50 PM Session 1
Have you ever realized you’ve been singing the wrong lyrics to a song for years? The same happens with copyrighted materials—many educators unknowingly misuse them in the classroom. Let’s get in tune with best practices for using and sharing Open Educational Resources (OER).
The PALSave program empowers campus champions to advance textbook affordability through OER advocacy and faculty grants. These leaders drive change by promoting open education and inspiring peers. This session features DePauw’s Victoria Peters and PALNI’s Amanda Hurford on fostering collaboration, reducing costs, and enhancing student success with consortial program support.
12:00 PM - 12:50 PM Lunch (Great Hall, Room 136)
1:00 PM - 1:50 PM Session 2
This session explores how Open Pedagogy intersects with High-Impact Practices and Universal Design for Learning to develop connected, student-centered learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom into communities. The interactive session will demonstrate how Open Pedagogy is a high-impact and inclusive learning strategy.
This presentation will showcase the cultural research projects and posters that students in “The German-Speaking World Today” class created as their main course project. We will outline the project goals and share successes and challenges as well as opportunities for growth in future iterations of the project.
2:00 PM - 2:50 PM Session 3 (Round Tables)
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Networking time (optional)
