2021 ALI Information Literacy Conference 

Call for Poster Presentations

 

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI) Information Literacy Conference will be hosted virtually on Wednesday, July 14th from 10am-1:00pm EST. This year’s conference will feature a synchronous keynote address led by Dr. Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, Professor and Coordinator for Information Literacy Services and Instruction in the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The conference will also feature digital posters, recorded poster presentation videos, and small group question and answer sessions with poster presenters. 

To submit a proposal for the 2021 ALI Information Literacy Conference, please complete this Google proposal form by May 17, 2021. The ALI Information Literacy Committee will review these submissions and communicate with presenters by May 28, 2021.

The planning committee is looking for poster presentations that illustrate the ways in which librarians have made positive (perhaps unexpected) changes to their instruction and information literacy work specific to their local context to best support students during the pandemic that will persist into the future. The committee is accepting poster presentations related to the broad theme of Lessons Learned and Successes from Delivering Information Literacy Instruction Online; however, we are particularly interested in poster presentations that provide practical, forward-looking ideas that address at least one of the conference learning outcomes and that attendees can implement in their work beyond the pandemic. Possible topics of interest may include the following:

  • Perspectives on Online Learning: How has teaching in distributed environments over the past year changed your outlook on distance learning and online learners?
  • “Why haven’t we always done it this way?”: What practices from online learning do you plan to keep when a return to face-to-face instruction is possible? 
  • Local contexts: What can large campuses learn from the small campus experience (including community colleges) and vice versa? Special consideration will be made for presenting with colleagues at another institution. 
  • Relationship Building: How has teaching online and use of online communication modalities facilitated new kinds of relationship-building with faculty?
  • Inclusivity and accessibility: How has teaching online helped us to make our content and activities more inclusive and accessible to more learners?
  • Mental Health: How has your instruction or outreach work built connections with mental health and wellness resources on campus?
  • Outreach: What have we learned about conducting community outreach and other activities online?
  • Copyright: What do we need to know about copyright in the online learning environment? What should we share with instructors we work with?

Conference Learning Outcomes:

After attending the 2021 ALI ILC Conference, attendees will be able to

  • Apply at least one idea to their own instructional practice at their institution.
  • Reflect on aspects of pandemic-era instruction that may be improvements on pre-pandemic practices.
  • Take concrete steps toward removing barriers to online learning.
  • Effectively partner with faculty in order to improve student learning in online and hybrid contexts.
