Reciprocal borrowing is an agreement between libraries to allow each other's patrons to check out materials. Participating libraries extend borrowing privileges to current faculty, staff and students at any of the institutions represented.

The goal of the program is to promote, enhance, and facilitate research, teaching, and learning in Indiana academic institutions.

  • Currently employed faculty and staff
  • Currently enrolled students in good standing
  • Fill out the application available on the enclosed brochure.
  • Present application with current campus ID to home library.

NOTE: The home library has final authority to issue or deny reciprocal borrowing privileges.

Borrowers must present:

  • ALI borrower's card
  • Current campus ID
  • Photo ID with current address

NOTE: Some lending libraries may issue a local library card.

  • Privileges are granted for up to one year (expiring on or before June 30)
  • Privileges and loan periods are determined by the lending (host) library

Reciprocal Borrowing in 5 Easy Steps

  1. Ask your home library for an ALI Reciprocal Borrowing Card.
  2. Travel to any ALI member library.
  3. Before you find your materials, check in at the circulation desk. Present your ALI card. The reciprocal library will enter you in their system and explain circulation policies.
  4. Locate materials and check them out.
  5. Return materials to your home library a week before the due date or directly to the reciprocal library on the due date.
